Automotive oil seal, commonly known as valve oil seal, is one of the rotary seals. It has good elasticity, low compression deformation and aging resistance, but the rubber seal material must be adapted to the working conditions of the car, the type of medium, working pressure, temperature and application status and other conditions.

Automotive oil seals prevent oil from entering the intake and exhaust pipes, causing oil loss, preventing gasoline and air mixture and emission exhaust gas leakage , and preventing engine oil from entering the combustion chamber. The valve oil seal is one of the important parts of the engine valve set, which is in contact with gasoline and oil at high temperature, so it needs to be made of materials with excellent heat resistance and oil resistance, usually fluoroelastomer. In addition to fluoroelastomer, NBR, silicone rubber, acrylate rubber, polyurethane and PTFE are also commonly used materials.

1、Preparation before starting

a、Comprehensive inspection of the seal, testing whether the installation of ancillary devices and pipeline is complete and whether it meets the technical requirements.

b、Static pressure test before starting the mechanical seal, check whether there is leakage of the mechanical seal. If there is more leakage, the cause should be investigated to eliminate. If it is still not effective, it should be disassembled to check and reinstall the oil seal. General hydrostatic test pressure with 2~3 kg /cm2.

2、Installation and shutdown

a、The sealing chamber should be kept full of liquid before starting. For conveying solidified medium, the sealing chamber should be heated with steam to melt the medium.

b. For mechanical seal using oil sealing system outside the pump, the oil sealing system should be started first. Stop the oil sealing system after the last stop.

c. The cooling water cannot be stopped immediately after the hot oil pump is stopped. Wait until the oil temperature at the end seal drops below 80 degrees before you can stop the cooling water to avoid damage to the seal parts.


a. If there is slight leakage after the pump starts, it should be observed for a period of time. If the leakage is not reduced after 4 hours of continuous operation, the pump should be stopped for inspection.

b、The operating pressure of the pump should be smooth and the pressure fluctuation should be no more than 1kg/cm2.

c, pump in operation, should avoid the phenomenon of pumping, so as not to cause dry friction and seal damage to the sealing surface.

d、Sealing condition should be checked frequently. In operation, when its leakage exceeds the standard, the heavy oil is no more than 5 drops/minute and the light oil is no more than 10/minute. If there is still no trend of improvement within 2-3 days, the pump should be stopped to check the sealing device.
