Do You Know About Car Oil Seals

Modify: Dec. 05, 2020

The seals on automobiles include sealing strips for sealing doors, windows, and covers, as well as various sealing rings used to close the gaps where oil spills, and various gaskets, which seem inconspicuous, but if they are missing, they may be fatal. Automobile Oil Seal Manufacturers are here to tell you about the installation specifications of two typical oil seals. I hope that the majority of car owners will pay more attention when replacing them.

1.After the felt oil seal is soaked in lubricating oil, install it with proper pre-tightening force

Felt Oil Seals are usually installed at the front, rear end and rear axle of the engine.

If it is not saturated with lubricating oil, for the annular oil seal installed on the rotating part, it is likely to generate high temperature due to the dry friction between the felt and the journal, and the sealing performance will fail; for the strip felt installed in the flat groove, it is likely Shrink due to a large amount of lubricating oil, resulting in a loose seal.

In addition, the felt oil seal must be installed with proper pre-tightening force. Under normal circumstances, the size before installation is 1/4 to 1/3 larger than the size after installation. If it is too large, the elasticity of the felt oil seal will decrease and the sealing effect will be reduced. It becomes worse, and it is easy to be damaged prematurely due to overheating; if it is too small, the permeability will not be fully exerted and the oil will leak easily.

Once the part where the felt oil seal is installed is removed, the elasticity of the felt oil seal must be checked when reinstalling. If it does not meet the requirements, it must be replaced in time. Do not ignore it because it looks quite new.

2. The special installation tool for the skeleton oil seal is installed in the specified direction

Skeleton oil seals are used in engine crankshafts, transmissions, differentials, shock absorbers, engines, axles and other parts.

When installing, the lip of the Skeleton Oil Seal should face the oil storage side, and it must be avoided to install crooked or hammer and other tools to hit its surface, otherwise it may cause liquid leakage due to reverse installation, or damage due to hitting.

If there is no special installation tool, just like wearing a bracelet on your hand, you can first wrap the part to be installed with cellophane (hard plastic film), then apply a little lubricating oil, and then push the skeleton oil seal evenly and slowly from the shaft head. , And then pull out the cellophane after installation.

Generally, when the lip of the skeleton oil seal is damaged, cracked or oiled and corroded, it must be replaced.

The seals are not big and relatively cheap, but if they are left to be damaged and not replaced in time, it is likely to cause great safety hazards. For example, the O-shaped water blocking ring installed on the cylinder liner, once damaged, a large amount of coolant in the water jacket will "take advantage of the vacancy" to enter the crankcase, and the lubricating oil inside is bound to be contaminated, and the consequences can be imagined.
